Thought 65W charging was fast? This brand says ‘hold my beer’

Fast charging technology has made some massive strides in the past two years, with the fastest solutions delivering a full charge in way under an hour.

Oppo is arguably king of the fast charging game right now, with its Reno Ace and Oppo Find X2 Pro offering 65W charging speeds. But it looks like Lenovo is readying a ridiculous solution for its Legion Gaming Phone (h/t: MySmartPrice), teasing 90W charging speeds on Weibo.

The Lenovo Gaming Phone would clearly be a major upgrade over previous fast charging solutions. However, we do have to wonder about heating and battery longevity at this speed.

The actual time to 100% depends on the size of the phone’s battery though, with the Oppo Reno Ace’s 4,000mAh battery hitting full capacity in 35 minutes. So we can expect a faster charging time if the Legion Gaming Phone offers the same battery size, and a similar time if it has a ~5,000mAh battery.

We don’t want to rule out the possibility of the phone coming with a 90W charger for other devices (e.g. laptops), but topping out at a lower wattage. We’ve previously seen Xiaomi offer a 65W charger in the Mi 10 Pro box, but the phone itself offers 50W speeds. Nevertheless, the company’s responses on Weibo point to this being the real deal rather than a strange marketing tactic.

We’ll have to wait for the Lenovo Legion Gaming Phone’s eventual reveal for all the details, but what would you like to see from gaming phones in 2020?
