As we all continue to navigate our way through this strange new pandemic world, one of the many issues to consider is pediatric preventative health care. Naturally, if your child experiences a health or dental problem, that’s a necessary trip to an office, but what about routine dental cleanings and wellness checkups?

Many experts say it’s okay to temporarily delay the routine dental cleanings if you’re uncomfortable with going into an office, but it’s worth giving your dentist a call to discuss the situation, as well as the precautions they’ve put in place.

Where wellness visits are concerned, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) “strongly supports the continued provision of health care for children during the COVID-19 pandemic.” The main concerns involve delays in vaccinations and vital health screenings.

It’s worth noting that many providers are offering virtual appointments or will allow you to wait in your car until they are ready to see you, which allows you to avoid or reduce possible waiting room exposure. And *some* pediatricians can be persuaded to administer vaccines and booster shots while you sit in your car, provided you wait the requisite 15 minutes to watch for reactions before leaving the parking lot.
