Older toddlers may enjoy the Little Life Cycles series by Maggie Li.  Die-cut pages entertain us while we walk through the life cycles of butterflies or frogs.

Beginning Reader and Picture Books About Frogs

Frog VS. Toad by Ben Mantle is a tale of friendship about the importance of appreciating our similarities and our differences. This mud-slinging romp provides a lot of laughs and a big dose of learning about being friends.

Bradley McGogg, The Very Fine Frog by Tim Beiser came out in 2011.  Bradley learns that not everyone eats the same things as he does, and that is ok.  It really has a great message about respecting the customs and preferences of others.

City Dog, Country Frog by Jon Muth is a story with a deep message.  The tale of finding a friend and then losing him gently teaches that all living things have a beginning and an ending.

Coquí in the City by Nomar Perez is the story of a family who moves from Puerto Rico to the mainland United States. The child in the story wonders if anything will be the same. To his surprise, he does find things that remind him of his old home.

Frog on a Log by Kes Gray and Jim Field- rhyme, rhyme and more rhyme, bold pictures, and short.

Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel is a classic in a series of books by Lobel.  There are five silly adventures in this book highlighting the everlasting friendship of a frog and a toad.

I’m On It! by Andrea Tsurumi is a super silly and fun tale full of positional words as goat and frog get inside, between, and around oodles of different items.

Jump Frog, Jump! by Robert Kalan is a fun cumulative tale that will get the kids up and jumping.

Get ready to do The Hokey Pokey frog style in The Croaky Pokey! by Ethan Long. Not only will your little froggies be dancing, but they will also want read/sing along. The best part will be sticking out their froggy tounges to catch lunch.

Tuesday by David Wiesner is an almost wordless book about frogs who take flight on their lily pads.  The illustrations won Wiesner a Caldecott award in 1992.

Ok, one more wordless book I need to include is A Boy, A Dog, and A Frog by Mercer Mayer.  It’s a little book with pen and ink drawings that depict a boy and his dog on a walk trying to catch a frog.  It’s a great book for developing oral language skills with preschoolers.

It’s Mine by Leo Lionni is a tale of three frogs who argue all day about things that they find and want to claim as their own until they learn from a toad that sharing is much more rewarding.

Bentley & Egg by William Joyce follows a frog who is in charge of watching a duck egg.  He decides that the white egg is boring and colorfully decorates it.  Well, it is mistaken for an Easter egg and the adventure begins.

Informational Children’s Books About Frogs

Being Frog by April Pulley Sayre is filled with gorgeous photographs to enhance your learning about these creatures.

I do love an informational book that is entertaining as well as informative.  And, that’s what you get with Nobody Likes Frogs: A Book of Toadally Fun Facts Barbara Davis-Pyles. Will you be convinced to like or not like frogs by the end?

You say you want to be a frog!  Well, grad So You Want to Be a Frog by Jane Porter and learn all about these creatures in this fun and engaging book full of frog facts.

From Tadpole to Frog (Let’s Read and Find Out Science) by Wendy Pfeffer is a good basic introduction to the life-cycle of a frog for early readers.

What is the difference between a frog and a toad?  Check out Frogs by Gail Gibbons to find out.  Plus, you will learn oodles more in this great read.

Red-Eyed Tree Frog by Joy Cowley showcases photographs from the Central American rainforest of a red-eyed tree frog searching for food and dodging predators.
